Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra cellist,Rafael Hoekman, returns to RPAC for a second concert, featuring the cello suites by J. S. Bach. Hoekman is recognized as one of Canada’s most versatile cellists, finding success as a soloist, chamber musician, orchestral player and teacher.

James Murdoch:
James has performed all over North America, from New York to L.A., Newfoundland to his home town of Whitehorse. From festival to small club, Murdoch is equally at home on stage either solo, duo or with his full band. He writes beautifully crafted songs. A subtle blend of roots wrapped in pop sensibility, highlighted by his powerful vocal talent and vivid storytelling.

Jimmy Whiffen:
Jimmy has played in venues all across our country. He is best known as a solo artist with his acoustic guitar but he also performs with a band. His passion brings the people to their feet, puts smiles on their faces and for a moment we all share in the magic of the music.
Influenced by the likes of Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, John Prine and Fred Eaglesmith, just to name a few, Jimmy’s songs depict real life situations.

Bringing about a musical equivalent to the liberation and soul-satisfying power of this ages-old philosophy, her intensely personal music is steeped in soul-fed folk intertwined with a vast array of styles varying from outright rock to ancient mantras.

Liona Boyd, known as “The First Lady of the Guitar,” has introduced millions to the art of classical guitar through her concerts, TV specials, music videos and 22 recordings, many of which have gone “Gold” and “Platinum.” Liona has given solo and orchestral concerts around the globe and played for dozens of world leaders. She has recorded or toured with many amazing artists including Sir Andrew Davis and the English Chamber Orchestra, Yo Yo Ma, Gordon Lightfoot and Eric Clapton. Liona has been a special guest on The Tonight Show, Town Show, Boston Pops and Entertainment Tonight.
Her virtuoso talents resulted in five Juno awards, five honourary degrees, and The Order of Canada and Order of Ontario. She is also a five time winner of the Guitar Player Magazine poll for best classical guitarist. Liona has composed and arranged hundreds of pieces for her instrument and also penned a bestselling autobiography.
