Welcome to a New Chapter for the Okotoks Arts Council

On March 1 2017, the Okotoks Arts Council voted in a new Board of Directors of fourteen members. For 35 years, the OAC has accomplished many wonderful initiatives in Okotoks on the steam of a relatively small board and membership. The OAC served our once small community well, but with triple the growth since 2000 and the removal of the population cap, it is also time for growth in a representative Arts body for our area. The Okotoks Arts Council will continue to support artists and makers in their endeavours, but we will also be a strong voice of promotion and advocacy for an amazing art community in Okotoks and the region.

The OAC has had a very busy couple of months setting up a more governance oriented Board in order to serve its membership to the best of its ability. Shortly, we will move on key revisions to our bylaws, one of which will see our council reach far beyond the borders of Okotoks. As an artist myself, I like the idea of breaking down borders and barriers to more connectivity, inclusiveness and accessibility. Growing our reach and our membership is essential if we are to start thinking ahead in this region of Arts priorities and work toward the realization of facilities that will serve the broader public without unnecessary and inhibiting duplication of resources.

We look forward to serving you, your Arts interests and other Arts organizations better in the future as we now have the people and the numbers in which to achieve that. We look forward to some exciting new OAC initiatives in the near future and to be of greater assistance to you in your respective communities.

If you wish to be a part of any of this, let us know! We welcome new committee members, general members and volunteers anytime. It takes an Arts Village after all.
